Even though the Hilton Head Concours and Car Club Showcase have been postponed to 2021, we still want to ‘display’ the cars entries that we received and their owners to the broader car world via our club website and social media. We’ll do that by highlighting one car/owner just about every week for the balance of this year.
MEMBER SPOTLIGHT – Ken Sirlin
My car (1962B, T-6 Cabriolet)is not technically a “barn find”; more like a “graveyard find”, since it was discovered , along with five others, abandoned bordering a lake in Belgium.I purchased it while living in Brussels in 1985, immediately after a complete three year restoration. I drove it in the Liege-Rome Liege(in 1952, this was the first race ever won by a Porsche) Vintage Car Rally in 1991 and 1999, while I was still living in Brussels.
I have driven the car almost 60,000 miles, so now driving it seems pretty normal. In 1985, I would not drive it in the rain. During the rallies, driving was incredibly exhilarating.
I currently drive around 3-4 thousand miles a year and split it between the 356 and a 1998 triple-black Boxster(in the months requiring air conditioning).
After a 35 year work career(29 years outside the United States, with the last 15 years working for Levi Strauss & Co. in Brussels), we moved to Savannah in 2000. We have a daughter born in Madrid and a son born in Barcelona.
